CESAR DE LA CERDA began piano lessons at the age of ten with his grandfather Miguel Espinoza, a notable pianist who graduated from the Conservatoire de Paris. Upon completion of his training as a professional musician at the Conservatory of Mexico in Mexico City , he received a Ph. D in Psychology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico, subsequently; he devoted his spare time teaching piano. He became interested in the modern expression of contemporary music, particularly jazz music. He studied harmony and improvisation under the guidance of John Mehegan at the Julliard School of Music in New York during the mid-sixties. For the last 40 years he has been teaching courses in modern harmony, piano arrangement and improvisation to students and professionals. The 3 books summarize the principles of this teaching and represent a valuable contribution to these important subjects. Additionaly Cesar de la Cerda has written a series of one-hundred eighty (180) piano arrangements organized in 12 volumes, which include classical and standard styles, all which illustrate the practical application of his teaching. |
